Olga Segura is a Mexican film producer based in Los Angeles, where activism and storytelling intersect at the core of her work in the industry, shaping both purpose-driven cinema and social impact programs.
About
Los Angeles, CA. 2023.
As a filmmaker, Olga Segura focuses on producing stories that she finds enticing, meaningful and transcendental. She feels passionately about stories that dig deep and spark important conversations.
In 2013, she produced The Truth About Emanuel, written and directed by Francesca Gregorini, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Dramatic Competition.
She also developed and produced The Dinner, adapted and directed by Oscar-nominated Oren Moverman from the novel by Herman Koch, starring Richard Gere, Steve Coogan, Laura Linney, and Rebecca Hall. It was one of the films in Competition at the 2017 Berlin Film Festival.
Her last film, Waiting for the Barbarians, was based on the novel written by Nobel Prize winner J.M. Coetzee. Directed by Oscar-nominated Ciro Guerra, and starring Oscar winner Mark Rylance, Gana Bayarshaikhan, Johnny Depp, and Robert Pattinson, the movie premiered at the 2019 Venice Film Festival.
In 2023, she produced, wrote, and directed her first animated short film: Elefanta, Que Ninguna Se Quede Balanceándose Sola (Elefanta).
In 2024, she produced Killing of a Nation, a Haitian narrative thriller directed by Carlos Bolado.
She is currently directing a documentary based on the 3-time Latin Grammy winner, Carla Morrison.
She co-founded The Latinx House, which between 2022 and 2025 served as a powerful platform for those who celebrate, support, and invest in the excellence of the Latine community.
She created the Adelante Directors Fellowship in partnership with the Sundance Institute, Netflix, and Shondaland to support the professional growth of emerging female, non-binary, and gender non-conforming Latine directors. She then went on to develop programs like the Proof of Concept and the Gloria Schoemann Editors Fellowship in collaboration with the Adobe Foundation, to support filmmakers and editors through funding, mentorship, and industry access.
Along with Eva Longoria, America Ferrera, and seven other powerful Latina trailblazers, she had the honor of co-founding Poderistas — the largest platform designed to empower and celebrate the next generation of Latina women.
This year, she is launching Highways Lab—a new initiative she created in collaboration with Rideback RISE (501c3), the outstanding non-profit founded by producer Dan Lin and led by the incredible Latina executive Diana Mogollón. Rideback RISE is dedicated to advancing equity in the entertainment industry by empowering talented creatives from underrepresented communities.
Their deep alignment in mission and values is what brought Olga and the Rideback RISE team together. They’ve developed a couple of new programs, designed to support filmmakers through mentorship, funding, and meaningful access to creative and industry opportunities—efforts that reflect their shared commitment to building a more inclusive and sustainable industry.
Olga Segura is proud of her Mexican and Panamanian roots.
